My name is Zac Brown ,
I first was exposed to winemaking by my grandfather back in the 80's , a talented country winemaker and friend of Cjj Berry's . Then I lived in Western Australia and the Czech Republic for much of the 1990's .
I had the opportunity to work in both the most modern and the most old fashioned and traditional wineries under the instruction of some very experienced winemakers.
Coming back to Canada in 2000. , I started down the path of being an obsessed home winemaker , making wine from grapes sourced from all over North America and occasionally Chile .
Having a solid background in the physical sciences and chemistry, I also read every book on the reading lists of the enology degree programs at UC Davis and 3 other universities .
I started going to the big professional conferences in Europe and North America , traveling all over the world to visit both major and obscure winemaking regions and above all cultivate relationships and dialogs with winemakers all over the world. (I even learned to speak French to facilitate this)
In early 2016 , we decided to move up frount and have purchased Alderlea Vineyards and Winery on Vancouver Island , a 20 year old business and one of the pioneers in the Cowichan Valley . Alderlea produces Pinot Gris , Sauvignon Blanc , Gewurtztraminer & Bacchus for whites and Pinot Noir , Foch & the Blattner variety Cabernet Foch .
