  1. KDZ - I must need a reading comprehension course. Question regarding the proportions of Fipronil to chicken; From the study 0.4ml of 9.1% fipronil mixed with 50ml juice from 150 grams of chicken meat. So, you mix the liquid from the can(s) with the fipronil, then add the 150 grams of meat?

I'm finding only 2.0oz cans (56grams) and 3.0oz (85 grams) of the Swanson's, so the bait proportions don't compare well with the product offerings.

I can see the strength of the bait being crucial to the scavengers successfully making the return trip to the nest for this to work.

      Hi Scott

First I think the concentration is ok to ballpark - it isn't a precise number.  The idea is enough fipronil to kill the nest slowly, but not so much that the workers/scavengers die in the bait cup.

I would suggest pre-making a stock supply of baited chicken.  For example, you could use two 56g cans and drain all the broth then measure the liquid volume.  0.4ml fipronil / 50ml juice = 0.8/100ml = 0.08ml/10ml.  So 0.1ml fipronil is about right for about 12ml juice, and you can figure out what to use for your volume.

Using the correct concentrations mix up the liquid real well, then stir that into the meat.  I mix and mash it up very thoroughly, making a slurry like baby food so there are no unpoisoned lumps. (Dont feed to your baby though).

Now you are good to go and use 1-2 tsp / bait cup, replacing every few days.

      good luck!
