is done to optimize sunlight and airflow Vine
Training can is a very important step in your grape growing.
Vine Training is done to optimize the trellis system you have
for your vines. You want to have your vines
separated so they do not fight for sunlight or
air. It's just that simple from what I understand.
You can download this
PDF on Vine Pruning for your references as well.

What do I need?
There are several different types of vine training attaching
products out there. Here are some that I have
tried. Be sure to contact Orchard
Valley Supply for a free sample of various types.

Here are some various vine
tying products you can try. These are called AgTie.
For the state my vines are currently in, these are the ones I
prefer for now. |
|
| This
Tie Tube is very handy and is my second favorite. It
comes in a ball (very much like a ball of twine) and you just
tear or cut off short lengths. You can leave space
for the vine to grow, and the knot will not come
loose. |
 |
| This
product is called Clip-It. It comes in various sizes and
is quite handy for training secondary vine growth. |

Training is a simple process
All you're doing is attaching the vines to the trellis system you have
installed.
How Often?
I recommend visiting the vines every week at least to make sure the
vines are properly growing.
