Has anyone seen this?
http://www.oenodev.c.../SMART_BUNG.pdf

Its a tool design for tracking of barrel ulage during aging. I talked about it with some winemakers and they showed interest but I couldnt get an answer from the company and It seems that no online retailer carries it.
My advice may or may not be backed by actually personal expirience and should be treated as such. :)

for us amateurs , I've never met a home winemaker who didn't open and look or taste a barrel so often these would be redundant.
Above all relax , it's winemaking ,it's not supposed to be stressfull . It's not sky diving.

i would think doing an so2 test and adjustment every 3 months would also drive top ups .

those are pretty cool , but I've never seen one in a winery , even visiting wolf blas in australia with its thousands of barrels .

winemaker magazine had a set of instructions on building an electric one that used a battery and a small led . when the level dropped the circuit opened and the light came on.
about $3 worth of parts and 10 miuntes work .

I made one but never used it .

Kinda like my friend who never knew he needed a divorce until his wife gave him one!

Way too simple and mechanical. To be really useful, it needs to be digital and connect wirelessly to a central computer that will notify my smart phone that I need to top up barrel #1064. "I started numbering with barrel 1060"
