I bottled a batch of wine on Sunday and I waited until tonight to wipe down the bottles and finally lay them down. I noticed that two bottles had a white spot inside the bottle on the shoulder. It looks like undissolved k-meta or the like that had stuck there and diffused a bit out. It doesn't look fuzzy. Has anyone seen something like this before? The paranoid me wonders if I have something growing in my bottle after just three days.

You may just have "hard" water. I have lots of calcium in mine and it causes spotting like you describe. I think it's only a cosmetic issue, but if it bothers you try a little CLR in the rinse.

I'm sure its just a deposit of some kind that collected on that spot when drying; either kmeta or mineral as you and Steve have said. I wouldn't worry about it at all; just make that the first one you open to satisfy your curiosity.

It's kind of weird that it's inside though, you are certain this isn't a piece of label that got inside from cleaning? You would think anything adhering to the surface would get absorbed into the wine or at least rise to the top or sink due to density. It will only cost you 1 cork to find out if you really want to know and you could just re-bottle.

You are all making excellent points. I am pretty positive that isn't a piece of a label. I have been watching the two bottles in question fairly close to monitor the spots - looking to see if they "grow". They will probably be the first bottles I open for testing. I am just waiting for the bottle shock to wear off.
