I'm just getting started on my first batch of strawberry chocolate wine.I can get a little knowledge from my brother but he is also kinda new at this.If anyone has any experience at making this combination,I would greatly appreciate any tips or any information that would point me in the right direction.I do understand there will be some trial and error but the less error would be great. One of my main concerns is what kind of chocolate and how much.I was hoping to keep the wine as clear as possible.

Welcome! Welcome to the forum and to winemaking!

Forget clear, it's chocolate!

Do a search here for chocolate wine. There are several threads. If you need to follow one that's blackberry, just substitute strawberry.

I made a chocolate strawberry JAM wine, it is crystal clear & I used Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder at the start of the wine. It initially looked like a YooHoo beverage, but with time it cleared. But Wade is right, do a "search", but it is important to be clicked into the TOPIC forum you want to search, RECIPES, the entire forum, etc.. You will find various threads usually in the section to which the wine belongs, so you could find info in the Country Wines, Recipes, or General sections...just depends on where someone posted.

The type of chocolate will DEFINITELY have an impact, you may decide to use unsweetened cocoa powder, Hershey's chocolate syrup at the later stage of winemaking when the wine has already cleared and is no longer dropping any sediment, or a good chocolate extract like KayRoseWhite brand. Jack Keller gives a great overview of using Dutch Cocoa in his wineblog, http://winemaking.ja...wineblognew.asp, and he has a recipe for the wine you are seeking.

Welcome to the forum! And just remember it takes quite some time, defined as several months, closer to a year, for a wine like choc-strawberry to be ready for consumption...just my opinion and experience.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your first batch. Chocolate Strawberry should provide you with a significant challenge for your first attempt. My advice would be that you give it your best shot and have fun with it. I've made lots of "non-traditional" wines, and find that only about half of them end up being ones I'm proud to share. I always encourage new wine makers to consider making wine using wine kits because it is almost guaranteed to produce a wine that you can proudly share with friends. But watch out.... serving wine that your friends adore will keep them coming back for more.

Hello "INAT!" Welcome to WinePress.US! You have found a place with a wealth of information and years and years of experience just waiting for you. Please take a minute or two to update your profile to include a geographical location. Doesn't need to be the exact town or city you live in. That way other wine makers who live close by may be better able to help you when it comes to issues particular to your area: Where do I buy this, et cetera.

Thanks!
Martin Blind
