Ok, it seems that a club in Louisville is not in existence. If there is one, I am definitely interested in joining and if there is not one I am thinking about starting one. Even though I am very new to this whole wine hobby, I feel that it will be a great time for us who think alike to come together and share our ideas and mistakes.

I know there are a few people that are new to the scene, and would enjoy a monthly - quarterly meeting. But I hope to find some experienced folk who would enjoy joining and being a mentor to us newbies.

More info to come if I decide to start my own. wave.gif

But I would LOVE to be involved in a Louisville amateur winemaking group.

UPDATE LOUISVILLE AREA: Winewit(Gary) and KYRob(Rob) and I have all actually met at "the winery" in Shepherdsville. Met winewit at the event on 10/14 and I met KyRob YESTERDAY when he stopped in for a tasting. I was just chatting to him, discovered he was an amateur winemaker...asked him if he would be interested in a Louisville area amateur group, was he familiar with Winepress. He answered he had posted on here a few weeks ago...and I asked him if he was KyRob. HILARIOUS! SO, we are at THREE.

I met another winery patron (Kevin W.) right after KyRob walked out the door (I actually think they passed each other on the driveway), this gentleman lives just over the bridge is So.IN and he is very interested in joining the Louisville group. Add to that a handful of other amateurs that I know from "the winery" and we can get started. I have also been offered access to "the winery" any time we need it. I would just need to get confirmation of their availability & tell them how many are coming. They have enclosed their outdoor pavillion for the cool weather---so we would have plenty of room.

This being said....let's try to come up with a first meeting date & location. We can do a meet and greet, maybe everyone bring a bottle of wine for tasting with them, and then we can just talk about how we would like to be structured, etc.?? If anyone has any suggestions for other off-site meeting locations, please take the initiative and contact that off-site area and see what they say....can we bring our wine/snacks (cheese-n-crackers,etc) for tasting, is there a fee, what is maximum capacity, any particular rules/regulations, hours of availability, etc? Then we can assemble a master list. If any members want to offer up their home, that is great too.

I encourage interested Louisville area members to reply to this thread and/or message me directly thru this forum. If you choose to message me, I WILL do a brief update on this thread (unless you ask me not to)...that way other interested parties will know the current status.

Let's do this! And we need a name....AWAL: Amateur Winemakers Association of Louisville? Just thinking out loud.

Looking forward to our FIRST meeting.

I do know if we use any of the Bullitt Co wineries on Sunday we won't be able to buy a bottle of their wine for consumption on premises, not even a glass. And, I don't know if we can even open a bottle on their premises on Sunday other than their complimentary tasting. Might be able to get around by way of "private party". Don't really know.
We do have to remember to keep group size in mind, because we will have to have a meeting area large enough to accomodate the # of attendees. Just depends on what feedback we get. Something to think about.
I like the Sunday meeting time, but depending on what others think we may actually be able to do "even months we meet on 1st/2nd/3rd (pick one and lock it in) Sunday from 5-7p & odd months we meet on corresponding 1st/2nd/3rd other day from x-time"...that way we may be able to better meet the needs. Again, just thinking.
With all the wineries in the area, it may be quite easy to find meeting sites. WOO HOO.

What about 3rd Sunday, 5-7p, for ODD months (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11).....and we could talk about the even months? In the future, set a special date for DECEMBER for a "holiday event". I could see if "the winery" would let us use their place for November 20th, but I know all the wineries in Bullitt are required to close by 6p, but again it could fall into "private"....unless for the November meeting if we could do 4-6p???

We could try a schedule like that for 4-6 months and if it is not working for people the club could discuss setting new meeting dates, etc. But we have to start somewhere/somehow.

Louisville area/Southern Indiana area wine makers........any thoughts???? You interested????

The big box store that said they will discount us on supplies and such said we have to have membership cards. Also, since this big box store has more than one location around the metro area I want to find out if the discount will apply at all the locations. As of right now I have Party Source-Springhurst with a verbal agreement for discount. I just need to contact my "go to" at the Springhurst store and get a bit more info.

So, while I am at home recovering from my surgery I am playing at designing the AWOL membership card. It is nothing fancy, just a basic business card that will have our group name, established date, member name, join date. I will have the cards at the first meeting, I would think.

AWOL=Amateur Winemakers of Louisville Winewit and I decided to make a play off the military abbreviation "AWOL".

schindler50, I have your info. I have a list of 5 interested people, I think Sara knows a few more. I will sent a regular email to all. And enclosed a copy of a AWOL flyer. It would be nice to get our group a little larger. Gary
