it cativates at real slow speeds. The smallest I've racked into are half-gallon bottles, and it filled real fast.

Yep, it really foams and mechanical pumping (perhaps with the exception of vaccum) are really not suitable for bottling,
Gravity filling is a better gentler option,save the pump for racking and pumping the wine into gravity tank.
