I welcome any thoughts on doing my first red in a flex tank from anyone who has had some success with FlexTanks. I am anxious to get started with a red this season.

I put my 09 Cab Sauv into a flextank. Over all I have been very happy. I have oak planks suspended. Very easy to use, clean, move, etc. I did take a sample of my wine to a growers tasting and the over all impression was that the wine was good but not aging. In other words, it is not getting the O2 exposure that the same wine in a barrel gets. Of course a barrel lets in O2 & oak influences on a curve, lots at first and gradually declining. Flextank claims that the tanks give O2 at a rate comparable to a 2 year old barrel so it makes sense that mine would be behind in aging characteristics. It was suggested that I do some splashing pump overs to increase the O2 intake and I think that is a good idea but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
