At Crazy's suggestion I checked into powder coating. Apparently what makes paint non food grade is the solvents. Powder coating does not use solvents so it is OK with food products. Even if it chips it does not have any effect on humans or food excepts a chunk of product in your carboy. I decided to have all of the painted parts sandblasted and powder coated in original red. I'll post pics when it's done.

Here is the update:

I got my stuff back from the sandblaster/powder coater and I am very happy with the quality of work. If it is red it has been powder coated, if it is black then I painted it myself, and if it looks like stainless steel then it is. There is a cover that goes over the destemmer section but I left it off for the pictures. Wish it was September/October so I could give it a go. I will have to make some sort of mount for a macro bin for our 1000lbs of cab and then a stand & chute for the smaller batches but for now I like to sit in the garage with a healthy pour of something red and just stare...

I heard someone say shut up and show us the pictures so I will...

What a transformation. Nice job!

Just out of curiosity, what does the top gear turn? An auger?

Here is a picture. I assume the paddles just make sure the fruit does not get hung up in the hopper.

Sure is looking great. Very good job.

I am also looking for a stand with chute. Plans anyone?
Thought about 1 inch square tubing for a frame... then the all important stainless steel for the chute...

The paddles just keep the grapes moving along.

Great job, it all came together very nicely.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Can't wait to use it. I will start the stand today, I think hammered will be proud of the snappy idea I have brewing. Look out St. Pats, I am hot on your tail. lmao.gif

I am going to build mine out of 3/4 square tubing which will match the frame of the Crusher. The crusher has holes in the bottom which, I assume this is what they are for, I will build pins in the stand to keep everything lined up.

I will also build the chute out of stainless sheet metal but that leads me to a question. How much of a drop angle should I have. I want it to be as flat as possible to minimize how high the stand and crusher will have to be but it needs to be steep enough so I don't have to help must solids make it to their new home. Does anybody have a stainless chute that can measure the rate of descent for me?

Damn. A craigslist find.... I look everyday and haven't ever seen anything like this listed. Truly awesome find. And awesome work on the refurb.

(crosses fingers that I will someday find a crusher destemmer and/or press on craigslist)

It's done!!!! I am excited and can hardly wait for crush!!!!

I sacrificed a bit of stability with the front wheels going out to the side but this allows me to roll it right up to a macro bin.
