I read an artical from WineMaker Magazine ( How Sweet It Is:Chaptalization ) and it referred to "a 4-scale hydrometer with your sugar reading already calculated for you". I have searched everywhere and cannot fine one anywhere. Is there such an hydrometer and if so where can one be purchased ?

This might be what you are looking for, sometimes referred to as a thermohydrometer. It has a thermometer built in, and tells you how much to add or subtract to your reading. Gooole the term and you will find if for sale in a lot of shops.

With your experience if you haven't seen one I doubt if it exists. I was intrigued when I read the article and have done an extensive search looking for one to no avail.

I am aware of the conversion charts and have book marked a couple....I just thought it would be neat if the four scale was out there to have one. You know how us kids ( 62 ) are with toys.

Thanks for the reply...

Mine is from a manufacturer called: Stevenson Reeves Ltd.

It has 3 scales: SG, potential alcohol and approximate sugar.

Stevenson Reeves is a UK manufacturer and the hydrometer
is sold here in Holland.

Frank - no problem - I wished I had read the article before I replied. I just finished reading it, and now see what you are looking for, except, of course, I cannot find it either.
