This is one of my new Vignoles I planted this spring. It's actually reached the top wire. I just wanted to show everyone how bad the beetles are. I sprinkle the Seven-10 dust, but sometimes it gets washed off with rain.

Good lord!!! I have never seen anything like that. You might want to invest in some guinea hens.

An IPM pheranome trap?

Try Seven flowable with a sticking agent.

GOODNESS! I would get some sevin to spray on them, the dust washes off too much. I got some 80% Sevin at the farm supply store.

Just read.

Japanese Beetles

Thought the milky disease might be something to consider thinking ahead to next year. Won't help with this infestation but doesn't hurt try to slow them down for next year.

Hope the vines make it.

Joel,

how is the beetle control going? I used some dust & got little help, then went to sevin concentrate @ max strength (3 fl. oz./gal) i have not seen a beetle or any other insect in two weeks. the concentrate does not seem to float in the air like the dust, but i still used a respirator anyway. tom

That is right Tom...but concentrate is still volatile. (harmful vapors you cannot see)

I got through the Rose Chafers (cousin to the Jap Beetle) season unscathed. I've got tomato worms right now, but I figured out how to lick them without having to use insectice.

Only three weeks til verasion. Where did summer go?

Too bad my digital camera doesn't work.....I would show you the lace my Seibels have become because of those little monsters. Having said that, I am keeping them at bay: milky spores in the fall and spring spread like fertilizer, NOT using the phernome traps (hmmm....green scent thing that tastes good or large smelly back of my pals?), and spraying the vines first thing in the morning with a water based insecticide. Kills the lilttle buggers in mins, but has to be done every couple of weeks. But to their credit, the Seibels are prolific bearers anyway. Go figure.
