my family has been getting wic for years, and we always seem to have a but load of juicy juice. was wondering if anyone has ever tried to use this in a wine? it says its pasturized, so i imagine it will work. what are the thoughts of the masses?

It may be pasteurized but it may also contain a lot of preservatives and additives that would not bode well for wine. But, you never know. Try making a gallon and see what happens. That's the beauty of this wonderful hobby (as many have pointed out with their......colorful?....choice of ingredients). There are lots of recipes for Welch's grape juice wine, so why not? Go for it. biggrin.gif

Not exactly sure what WIC and JUICY JUICE is. I imagine you are talking about some kind of bottled juice like Welch's. Can you elaberate a little more?

Check the label for ingredients and make sure there are no chemical preservatives. That would hamper the process for sure. but according to this, it should be okay:

Oh, come on. If you're gonna do it. Do up at least a gallon. That's only 3 bottles you have to use...plus a little extra for topping up later. wink.gif

Post pictures and your progress as you go along, please. I'm curious how it turns out.

ive tried what your doing juicy juice contains to many ingredients it has sorbate which makes a yeast really hard to start. if your wick allows you welchs try that welches is exactly what it says 100% juice youll have to measure the initial sugar content it does have natural sweetners. but a hydrometer works nicely. i think youll be pleasantly surprised in how well it will turn out. welches has actually provided me with one of the best wines i have ever made after the process is done which you wont have to wait long there is no sediment except dead yeast so the process goes alot faster but if you like a sweet wine i reccommend sweetning to 3% makes a really sweet fruity red. delicious

I actually have some in a 4 L jug right now made from the Cherry juice and it started really fast. I made a yeast starter though. I also mixed mine with some apple juice and it had a great flavor at the start but now it needs to have a little flavor added in to bring the cherry out. Good luck with it though.
Current wine list
20 Gallons of Blueberry with red grape juice added
5 Gallons of Black Raspberry
15 Gallons wineberry
5 Gallons of Pineapple
Several carboys full of Raspberry and Several of Blackberry going as well
Soon to be made
blueberry
carrot
plum
