World Market takes a color-by-numbers approach to pairing wine with food with the launch of their new "Foodies" brand of wines. The line will be launching in March '08 and features wines "created just for food and wine enthusiasts of all levels".

Ok, maybe. To put food pairing suggestions on a wine label is not a bad idea, but to include butcher shop drawings of barnyard animals is a little silly (unless your target demographic is primarily illiterate carnivores). The only thing I have to take issue with is the pig on the Merlot label. Everyone knows that Zinfandel is a better accompaniment for BBQ pork! tongue.gif

Great! More suits telling the public what they should drink.

Come on people! Experiment! Develop your own tastes! Don't drink a wine with certain foods because someone else says so. Discover it on your own! There is no right nor wrong wine and food pairing. You just might find that you like Cabernet with oysters or Viognier with steak.

BTW, Zinfandel does go VERY will with barbeque pork! wave.gif

Wine sellers are only interested in selling more wine. Whatever it takes to get the unwashed masses to buy wine, they will do. Don't be surprised if they don't add dogs, cats and birds to the labels. They might even add animated avatars to the labels. BTW, what wine goes with a grilled chees sandwich made with processed cheese? lmao.gif

I didn't know that kool-aid and ovaltine could be fermented. Is that what the chocolate covered cherry wine was made from?

For the larger wineries you are right. They have lost the passion for making and selling the wine. It has become a business. For my <1,000 cases/yr., I hope to never sell to someone who does not have the passion to drink what my passion created.

I have not found a wine I did not like with grilled cheese. Rhones are equally as tasty as riesling!

Grilled cheese, absolutely. Processed cheese slices, no. That stuff gives me the willies.

I am surprised someone from north of the 49th hasn't chimed in. They claim processed cheese (read 'American') was developed/invented there. laugh.gif
