This is from Red Red Wine from last night the Elderberry quest!
If you would go on line and type in service berry or Saskatoon Service berry you would see the recipe
I plan on using. there are many but all are the same.
But this is where I need your help !
I found the recipe for Service berry wine and I'm ready to start But I'm confused
1: the recipe calls for 1 campden tablet at the start?
2: this recipe is supose to make 5 gal and I thought you add 1 tablet per gal as with grapes?
3: the recipe calls for only 5 pints of water.? when do I add the extra water? at top off?
4: do I add 1 tablet at each racking per gal. as in grape wine.
I know this is quite a few questions but I don't want to blow this recipe

RRW;
From what I see in your post, the recipe will make only one gallon of wine. How much fruit is there? Should be 3 to 4 pounds per gallon.
I think that one Campden tablet per gallon at each racking is excessive. I would use one per gallon at each second racking.
Where are you at that the saskatoons are ready? We are still a month away.
Pat

Thanks Gary
This is what I went with ( 1 gal ). It's all in the fermentation stage now. Tomorrow I'll add the pectic enzyme
and follow the instruction per recipe.
I figured the added 5gal at the end was for, if one wanted to make more?
Thanks to all you for you help The window of opertunity was from Thur. to today
I had to work fast, the Berries are falling off the bush and they are really juciy, ripe and loaded.
This is my first time with fruit other then grapes. So i'm getting my feet( wet.) ha ha.
