Anybody is welcome to attend our winemakers meeting.
Our next meeting is July 13th. One of our members just started his own vineyard. He will have a presentation on the preparation and planting a vineyard. He will also give us a tour of his vineyard.
The meeting will start at 7:00 PM. We will be sampling wines of the 4 types of grapes he has planted.
If you are interested, feel free to email me for directions.

Justin,
This is a very interesting article. SOunds like you have a very viable group. Would you post some notes about your next meeting here ( which gets very few hits as you can see) and in the general wine making section(which gets a ton of activity). I think a lot of members would find it interesting as to what a group like you are doing. I'm sure a lot of others would love to be in a group but don't know where to find one or how to start one.
I'm the moderator for this section. I spoke at Winefest a couple of years ago and I'm part of a large club that's been together for 28 years in Dnever. We have a ball and make great wine too!
Thanks,
Yogi

I started the Missouri Valley Wine Society June 2006 as the result of a few people in the local area that were interested in learning more about making wine. Our mission statement is "to share information about wine making to make a better wine". I filed for tax exempt status and filed all the papers for establishing the company. We started with a core group of 9 people. We decided to meet once a month at a member's house which we thought we would rotate each month. After 4 months, our membership was growing at 6 - 7 members a month. We quickly realized that we needed a permanent place to hold our meetings each month. I visited several places and came up with the Holiday Inn Express in Warrenton. After talking to the general manager about conference room rates, he became a member. We get a really good room rate. I have a defined agenda each month that we hold to. Each month there is a presentation on a topic along with a wine tasting/scoring on a featured wine. We compare commercial wines against home made wines. The March meeting we compared commercial blackberry wine against homemade blackberry wine.
We presently are at 47 members. We have a lot of fun and it has brought what used to be strangers together and we are all now friends. I would encourage any of you that have a circle of friends to start a wine club, share information and have fun.
We were featured in the Warrenton Journal at the March meeting which was sort of a surprise to all of us. The reporter and the photographer came and spent 3 hours with us at the meeting.

What does someone need to do to join your organization? I live in Jefferson City, and would love to talk to other people about winemaking/grape growing.
What the hell do I know anyway?

Ryan and Bob Jenkins, I had the opportunity to meet the members and attend one of the meetings back in April. They've got a great group, and you can learn a lot in just one meeting, not to mention meet a great group of people.
They have their meetings at a holiday inn express, and I stayed there overnight versus driving home. This was a great convenience, as if I were to attend again, I'd definitely stay overnight. I think it was a 2 or a 2 1/2 hour drive for me one way.
Either way, great people and a great focus. I really enjoyed the wine tasting / judging. It's a great way to help educate your pallate and judge your own wines when making wine.
Cheers,
joel

Well, I've arranged to be off work already, so I hope you don't mind having one more at the get together.
Are there any rules concerning camcorders? Seems like that would be asier than taking notes.
Do people need to bring some of their own wine?? Is there a fee?? What else do I need to know?

You are welcome to attend.
We have a featured wine each month. The featured wine for July will be berry wine. Any wine made from a berry fruit, strawberry, blackberry, etc. There is no charge to attend the meeting. However, if you think this is something you would like to do on a monthly basis, there is a membership fee. Our next meeting will be July 12th starting at 7PM in Warrenton at the Holiday Inn Express.
